It brings together artists of all levels in an inclusive movement structured around the international organization of <em>Urban Sketchers<\/em>which champions a simple idea: drawing from direct observation, telling the story of the world one sketch at a time, and sharing one's perspective. It is often practiced in groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Content and Approach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this course, we will explore the urban sketcher's approach, the basic drawing materials and tools to get started, and consider common situations: choosing a subject, simplifying a scene, and constructing a narrative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This six-hour workshop is open to all levels and includes a presentation and a practical component, divided into two three-hour blocks. Materials are not provided; registered participants will receive a list in advance to facilitate their preparation for the first session.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Block 1<\/strong>Thursday, April 30, 2026<\/p>\n<p>1.5 hours The <em>Urban Sketching<\/em>movement; materials and technical considerations, in class (Ch\u00e9nier Park chalet).<\/p>\n<p>(chalet du parc Ch\u00e9nier).<\/p>\n<p>1.5 hours Practice outdoors in Ch\u00e9nier Park, with individual feedback.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Block 2<\/strong> Thursday, May 7, 2026<\/p>\n<p>1 hour Answers to questions received in advance, in class (Ch\u00e9nier Park chalet).<\/p>\n<p>2.0 h Practical session at the Memorial Park, Old Aylmer* (including travel to the site), with individual feedback. *<em>Location may change depending on weather conditions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Location : Chalet Jean-Ch\u00e9nier, 515 Jean-Ch\u00e9nier Street (Aylmer Sector)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates: Thursday<\/strong><strong> April 30 and May 7, 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hours: 9 a.m. to noon <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The course will be offered in French<\/strong><strong>, but the instructor is bilingual.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimum of 5 participants.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost for members: $42 (for non-members $47)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About the instructor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Primarily self-taught, Marcelle Chabot actively practices urban sketching both locally and during her travels. Now retired after a rich career in research and public policy, she approaches urban space with the same analytical eye, now turned toward the light, lines, and rhythms of the street. She continues her training through academic drawing and watercolour.
