Description
Objective : Create a large, personal work (24 x 36 or 30 x 40) in which a figurative subject gradually emerges from an abstract background, experimenting with a different technique each week.
Structure of each course: 1.5 hours: Exploration of a new technique on paper or a small canvas and 1.5 hours: : Free and personal application of this technique on the large canvas.
Week 1 – Letting Go & Abstract Background: Technique free-flowing gestures, non-traditional tools (sponges, scrapers, etc.) Objective : create a lively and expressive background without expectations.
Week 2 – Material & Texture: Technique : Texture paste, gesso, collage. Objective : add depth, create visual and tactile focal points.
Week 3 – Inks & Fluidity: Technique : acrylic ink, colors, washes. Objective : play with movement, transparency and the unexpected.
Week 4 – Graphics & Patterns: Technique : pencils, pastels, markers, stencils Objective : integrate patterns, create rhythm, personalize.
Week 5 – Observation & Subject: Technique : sketch of a face, animal or symbol inspired by the painting. Objective : identify shapes and develop a figurative subject.
Week 6 – Layering & Blending: Technique : glazing, blending, transparency with mediums. Objective : seamlessly integrate the subject into the background.
Week 7 – Contrasts & Structure: Technique : shadows/light, drybrushing, accentuation. Objective : add depth to the subject and composition.
Week 8 – Shimmer& Gilding: Technique : gold leaf, metallic paint, bursts of light. Objective : add a precious touch, enhance certain areas.
Week 9 – Alterations & Finishing Touches : Technique : free tools to choose as needed. Objective : balance the work, refine the details.
Week 10 – Opening & sharing: (Presentation of the final works. Feedback on the creative process. Group discussion and celebration)
Level : Level: This workshop is for participants with intermediate and advanced levels.

The workshop will be offered in French, but the instructor is bilingual.

Regarding the instructor: Anna Prince is a visual artist based in the Gatineau region. She holds a Bachelor's degree in visual arts and graphic design and has been working full-time as an independent artist since 2022. Deeply connected to color, her work explores intuition, emotion, and the beauty of spontaneous gesture. She also weaves in a touch of realism creating a dialogue between abstraction and figuration.
